Procedure For Metaphor Analysis > Overview
This diagram encapsulates the procedure for analysing metaphor in discourse that we demonstrate in the pages here. There are two strands to the procedure: one, on the left side, that starts with the identification of linguistic metaphors, and one, on the right, that focuses on the discourse structure. The downward arrows indicate the direction of the analysis.
The horizontal arrows indicate the bringing together of the metaphor and discourse sides of the analysis. The large orange arrow indicates that the stages and sides of the analysis are not independent or separate but that there will be continuing interaction among and across them. As the researcher proceeds with the analysis, s/he will become more and more familiar with the data, and this will give rise to insights that relate to earlier work.
You can now move to the pages that take you through the steps of metaphor analysis by using the menu on the left.
